Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee

Cultivating the Next Generation of Long Island Agriculture

The Long Island Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Committee is a dynamic network of early-career farmers, ranchers, and agricultural professionals dedicated to building a strong and vibrant future for agriculture on Long Island.

YF&R brings together young people from across the region who share a passion for farming, leadership, and community service. Through hands-on learning, professional development, and peer-to-peer support, the committee empowers emerging producers to grow their skills, strengthen their operations, and make their voices heard in local and state agricultural issues.

Our Mission

The committee’s mission is to:

Support the next generation of Long Island farmers and ranchers
Foster leadership, advocacy, and professional development
Create a welcoming community where young people in agriculture can learn, network, and collaborate
Promote the long-term sustainability and viability of local agriculture

What We Do

Educational Programs & Workshops
We offer tours, trainings, and hands-on learning opportunities that help young farmers build technical knowledge and business skills.

Leadership Development
Members participate in advocacy efforts, legislative visits, and leadership events that amplify the voice of young people in agriculture.

Networking & Community
Through meet-ups, farm tours, and social events, YF&R connects young growers with peers, mentors, and industry partners across Long Island.

Service & Outreach
The committee supports community programs and helps elevate local agriculture through outreach and public engagement.

Who Can Join

YF&R is open to farmers, farm employees, ranchers, agribusiness professionals, and anyone involved in agriculture—generally ages 18 to 35—who is passionate about the future of farming on Long Island.

Membership is open to individuals who are part of, or whose families are part of, the Long Island Farm Bureau.

Why It Matters

The success of Long Island agriculture depends on the strength and resilience of the next generation. YF&R helps young producers overcome challenges such as land access, rising costs, workforce needs, and regulatory pressures by fostering a community built on shared knowledge, support, and innovation.
