Why does LIFB support the "Savor Long Island" promotion? Long Island Farm Bureau believes the most effective tools for preserving land on Long Island is to maintain a productive agricultural business market. Through profitable business, farmers can continue to grow their crops and maintain the open space we have grown to love. Overall, Savor Long Island strives to create a network between farmers, distributors, retailers and consumers, which in turn will enhance regional pride and promote a productive agricultural business world. However, the chain begins with you, the consumer, through requests and inquiries at your favorite restaurants and retailers. We hope you will join us in our efforts to preserve open space by "Savoring Long Island" every day.
Long Island agriculture provides the scenic vistas desired by our visitors and close proximity to farm markets, where visitors and year 'round residents enjoy the advantage of locally produced fruits, vegetables, poultry, fish, flowers, herbs, specialty products, ornamental horticultural products, and the best varieties of wine from local wineries.
Long Island’s agricultural industry is centered in, but not exclusive to, Suffolk County - the eastern two-thirds of physical Long Island. Bounded on the North by the Long Island Sound, between the twin forks by the Peconic Bay and on the south by the Atlantic Ocean, Suffolk County has a high water-to-land ratio that provides for moderate temperatures, mild winters, 42 inches of rainfall annually, and extended growing seasons. It is one of the best growing areas in the world!
Farm Stand Directory Our Farm Stand Guide is a free publication offered to the general public on line and in print (next current print will be Spring 2005) to promote the local growers on Long Island. Would you like to be listed as a farmstand on Long Island? Email LIFB at AskUS@lifb.com.

Who is Long Island Farm Bureau? Long Island Farm Bureau does much more for our members and the community than promoting agriculture. We are working hard to protect the quality of life Long Islanders have by working to preserve existing farmland and open spaces, as well as protecting our environment. For more information on this topic see About LIFB.
We have approximately 7,000 LIFB members on Long Island of which only 2,000 are active agriculture business owners (including farmers, nurseries, fishermen, lobstermen, greenhouses and vineyards). The majority of our members are non-farming members, or Associate Members. Every member joins for a variety of reasons. See membership information for more details.
