Long Island Farm Bureau as an organization, believes large lot zoning ie: one house per 5 acres or more is a waste of land and harmful to farmers equity (asset value) and their ability to capitalize their business operation.

Alot is happening in the political & governmental world, locally, state and federal: 

First off, in the Town of Brookhaven in a special election for Supervisor, Democratic candidate Mark Lesko defeated Councilman Tim Maezzi. 

 

Former Supervisor Brian X. Foley successfully ran for New York State Senate opening the slot for Supervisor special election this past Tuesday. The new Supervisor will have to run again this November for a 2-year term.  We wish the Supervisor elect “good luck and best wishes” as he takes over the reins at the helm. 

 

Long Island Farm Bureau will meet with the new Supervisor to discuss his plans going forward, especially on land acquisition.

One thing that makes Farm Bureau different from other organizations is the fact our policies and positions on issues is driven by our farmer members themselves through a democratic process and not determined solely by the Board of Directors.

To pick up from last week, it bothers me a lot when I hear the word “sustainable” from individuals and organizations. The fact is, it means different things to different people, and some even believe it means “all natural” or organic. Of particular concern is “sustainable” when used in a marketing context, may mislead consumers who are skeptical if it means anything at all.
